What is the 100 day Drawing Program?
The 100 Day Program from Pencil Jam is a structured teaching system that allows amateur artists to exponentially improve their drawing abilities within a period of 100 days. This program is specifically aimed at those who love art but have never had an opportunity to go to art school or obtain a formal art education. The program specifically aims to crunch 2 years of art school foundation education into 100 days!
How it works.
?The Program takes into consideration certain key factors that are essential to acquiring drawing skills and upgrading one’s visual language.
1. Perception Skills: How what we see is only what we know and expect to see. As you learn the art of seeing, you will acquire more visual information and as a result your sense of perception broadens. A side effect is also an increase in attention spans as your system learns to analyse more data. As an artist, attention to detail is critical.
2. Learning Skills: How we learn is just as important as what we learn. The program has a built in reviewing system that ensures what you learn is committed to long term memory. Research indicates that short term memory encoding is essentially acoustic or visual, while long term memory encodes semantically. Our classes are designed to help participants make sense of their own innate abilities, and build a framework around which they learn.
3. Motor Skills: Often the character of a single line in a drawing is a combination of many factors such as medium, pressure, colour etc. Our classes are designed to expose you to a variety of drawing and painting media to ensure that your system learns the intricacies of operating each medium.
4. Problem Solving Skills: The modules built into the program often present the student with a variety of problems such as that of perspective, realism, volume and so on. Translating an image from the real world into the 2d world of paper requires creative thinking and unceasing experimentation with the medium. This is an analogue to problems one encounters in everyday life, and the cross synesthetic abilities of the brain ensure that the student eventually learns to apply these solutions to life.
The modules within the program feature several different aspects of the visual, and students are encouraged to explore it through drawing, debate and writing. Some of the more complex modules require scientific investigation, while the skill oriented ones require the student to practise specific techniques.
Overall the 100 Day Program is a scientifically designed, structured system for learning drawing, and if it one day helps turn the student's output into art, it's purpose has been achieved.
